Jesus and Linen Cloth

"The Shroud of Turin is a 14-foot-long linen that many believe is the burial cloth of Jesus Christ. Markings on the artifact appear to show the image of a man's face, which many think was created after the cloth was placed on Jesus when he was buried. Whether the markings were formed by Jesus, dyes or something else has been fiercely debated."

Linen cloth

You can read more of the story here. The fact that this is almost certainly a hoax in one way, shape, or form aside, do we really need the face of Jesus on a linen cloth? Or on a cereal box? Or in the sky for that matter?

Look at what Jesus said to Thomas when he demanded to see the scars on the Savior's hands: "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed" (John 20:29).

So often I hear Christians say something like, "Being a Christian would be so much easier if we could just hear an audible voice of God. Or if we saw him do something like part the Red Sea." If you think like that, I have a question for you: why? Why do we need the audible voice of God? Read the scriptures that He has inspired (2 Timothy 3:16). Why do we need to see God part a sea? We are told He did it in the scripture (Exodus 14).

Is scripture not enough? When we say things like, "If I saw Jesus' face in the sky I would believe" and "Being a Christian would be so much easier if I could see God or hear His voice" we are essentially telling the Lord: "What you have given me is not enough."

Are the hundreds of miracles in scripture not enough proof? Or the prophecies? Or the scientific facts of the Bible? Or the experience of being born-again? How much more do we want, or need for that matter? We don't need Jesus' face in a linen cloth, scriptures tell us He was murdered, and rose three days later. That is enough, it is all we need.
